Chart Watch: NEW MUSIC TUESDAY’s

So it’s Tuesday and of course New Music is upon us (SO Exciting!!!!!!). Last night, No Doubt frontwoman Gwen Stefani released her much anticipated new single Baby Don’t Lie and thus far it has received some amazing feedback. The single seems current and fits perfectly with current radio. However, the song, in some parts (more specifically the chorus), seems to borrow a sound from another pop queen (cough cough Rihanna), but I digress. Nonetheless, the single is inescapably a success as it has risen to the top ten overnight on the iTunes Chart, after making a debut last night on the Voice.

Speaking of rising overnight, the Swifties waste no time supporting Ms Taylor Swift as Welcome to New York debuted and almost instantly rose to the top spot on the iTunes download chart. Clearly, Swift is on course for at least another top ten hit or two as both her singles, Out of the Woods, which debuted last week, and the aforementioned ode to NY have both debuted at #1 on the iTunes chart in their respective debut weeks. Look out pop stars, this pop princess (minus the country as of late) is here for the taking. See her latest offerings below and stay tuned for next week when she debuts the rest of her LP 1989 this coming Monday.

Reigning #1 Hot 100 Leader Meghan Trainor debuts her latest single this week, as well as her official debut album cover, today. Her new single Lips Are Movin’ seems to fall in the same lane as her current Hot 100 leader All About that Bass in that it gives an heir of empowerment to women as she calls out her man for lying and not giving her the love she needs. It certainly sounds like Trainor has another hit on her hands, but then again, US pop is quite unpredictable. Does Trainor have another hit on her hands or is she merely a one hit wonder? I guess time will tell, but let’s certainly hope not.

Also this week, new albums hit digital retailers today including Hideaway artist Kiesza, whose debut album Sound of a Woman debuts today, and Jessie Ware, whose sophomore set Tough Love also debuts today. Both of these ladies have been making major waves stateside. Be sure to check out their albums and spill the tea below. Until next time my  DIVO-ted readers.

NEW MUSIC UPDATE: The Freshmen and The UpperClassmen

It’s Tuesday and for those of us who know, it is the day of new releases and boy do we have some new stuff.

First up are the Freshman artists like Tinashe, Betty Who and Broods, who are all releasing their first full-length studio albums today. Fresh off her hit single 2 On, Tinashe presents Aquarius, her first studio effort. The R&B songstress is giving us Aaliyah-vibes with her soft vocal deliveries and bass-heavy beats. She clearly has found her lane with the Alt-R&B sound that permeates this album. She is clearly ready to show the rest of the world who she is. One of the most notable cuts so far is her collaboration with Devonte Hynes, the synth-heavy Bet.

The Who Crew have waited long enough and today is the day — Australian pop-starlet Betty Who has released her first full-length album Take Me When You Go. She’s been giving us a taste of the album with hit single Somebody Loves You and Runaway. Her breezy pop anthems feel like eternal summer and remind us that (dare I say) somebody loves you. One of her most notable cuts is Heartbreak Dream, which happens to be one of my favorite listens.

Now we turn our attention to Broods, who I’ve been dying over since my ears first heard this brother-sister duo. The New Zealand pairing have tasted success at home and abroad and now they’ve got their eyes set on the US. Their emotive lyrics and intricate beats offer a sound that is so refreshing and relaxing. To say that it is addictive doesn’t begin to describe how I feel about these two. Their first taste of success in the states came with Bridges, their hit single from their debut EP of the same name earlier this year. The hit makes a reappearance, as well as Never Gonna Change, on their full-length studio effort Evergreen, alongside new tracks like Mother & Father. Speaking of, the aforementioned track happens to be, in my humble opinion, one of the highlights of the album (listen below).

Aside from the albums mentioned above, some of music’s biggest names are making comebacks and I am all ears. First up, Tamar offers up new material a year after her chart-topping sophomore album Love & War. Her latest track, featuring Futuresamples Aaliyah’s At Your Best (You Are Love). This song does not disappoint. In true Tamar fashion, she soars vocally, proving to us that she may be the younger sister to a R&B/Pop veteran, but she is not to be overlooked.

Other new releases today include Nick Jonas’s Numb, featuring rising lyricist Angel Haze. Nick seems to be entering the R&B realm with his alluring production and with a dope R&B feature like Angel Haze, it is actually an interesting venture into the Pop/R&B genre. You can almost trace the start of this venture with a Ticonderoga No. 2 pencil when he released his first comeback single Chains.

Listen to the newest and finest above and spill the tea below. Until next time my fellow POPtarts.
